Support Without Sacrifice

Why are we willing to support the War on Terror with its high financial, economical, and military costs? Says Uwe E. Reinhard, it's because we don't have to sacrifice anything for it. We're not really attached to the consequences-good or bad-and we don't have much of a stake in it. I've heard the argument made in my classrooms in college over the years but am not sure it's true...but can't adequately explain myself right now. Feel free to chime in.
